PENACOOK Duo set to host concert

The United Church of Penacook is hosting a concert featuring Boland-Dowdall Duo on Tuesday at 7 p.m. This duo is dedicated to performing little-known 19th-century music on period flutes and guitars, and to commissioning and premiering new works. They will be in residence at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute in Boscawen for a few days this month. The concert is free and open to the public. EAST SIDE N.H. State Grange meet

Concord Grange 322 will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Hall, 48 Airport Road. The Grange will discuss the resolutions that will be voted at the upcoming N.H. State Grange Session running Thursday to Saturday at the Margate, in Laconia. Grange Master Dick Paten and Secretary Esther Herrick will be delegates from Concord Grange 322. Lecturer Gary Ford will present a Halloween theme program. The next meeting will be Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m.

WEST SIDE Halloween Howl returns

The annual Downtown Halloween Howl will be held on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Families from across the region look forward with great excitement to the safe and celebratory atmosphere that Halloween Howl brings to downtown Concord. Festivities include trick-or-treating at downtown businesses, meet and greet with local fire and police departments, a costume parade, music with DJ Nazzy, and more. Concord Hospitalโ€™s Center for Health Promotion is offering a Family and Friends CPR class on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Concord Hospital campus. This program will teach you how to give CPR to an adult, child or infant and is designed for those who do not need a course completion card. The cost to attend is $45 and registration is required. Tickets are now available for the Mr. Concord Pageant that will be held Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 172 N. Main St. Who will be crowned Mr. Concord? Join in on a hilarious evening with heavy hors dโ€™oeuvres, silent and live auctions. Proceeds benefit the Crisis Center of Central New Hampshire. Hosted by the Concord Contemporary Club. The cityโ€™s General Services Department will begin the annual Fall Leaf Pickup on Oct. 30 and normally runs through the first week of December. Place your leaves un-bagged at the curbside and the crews will pick them up. Leaves only will be accepted. Do not put any branches or debris with the leaves as they will not be able to be picked up. The last farmers market of the season will be Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is located off of Capitol Street in downtown Concord. The event offers 40 vendors, including meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, vegetables, fish, honey, bakery, and maple products. Also featured is potted plants, cut flowers, wood products, dog treats, and body care products.

Christ the King Annual Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the St. Peter Activity Center located at 135 N. State St.

The 31st annual Concord Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be held Nov. 24, with activities starting at 4 p.m. at the State House Plaza. Chairman Dick Patten is stressing this is a nonprofit event and donations are urgently needed to help pay for the vandalism that happened last year. The tree lighting begins the holiday season on Nov. 24 with Midnight Merriment scheduled for Dec. 1. To date, Eastern Bank and Merrimack County Savings Bank are the only two businesses in downtown Concord to support this event, which draws several thousand people to enjoy the activities from a petting zoo, horse drawn carriage rides, pony rides, magic show, music by Brian Waldron Band and more. All of these are tentative unless donations are received. Kevin Tucker is coordinating canned food drive by having an ambulance at the plaza. The goal is to fill the ambulance with non-perishable food and new toys for Christmas. Concord Imaging is the major corporate sponsor with AutoServ of Tilton and Dennis Gaudette, Concord Business Center, Foxfire Management with Steve Duprey, and the Rowley Insurance Agency are also corporate supporters. The Skip Houle Memorial Fireworks sponsored by WJYY and Binnie Media will light the skies over Concord.
