Youth hockey

The Concord Orthopaedics Concord Capitals U19 girls split two games with the Seacoast Spartans. The Capitals won the first game (3-2) and lost the second game (3-0). Colleen Donoghue scored two goals and Mikah Baptiste scored one. Maddie Long and Abby Houle shared goaltending duties.

The Unitil Energy Concord Capital PeeWee 3 team lost to the Lakes Regional Lakers 2 team, 7-3. Keller Ramshaw had two goals for Concord and Abram Martel scored one.

The Concord Capitals Squirt 3 team won its Seacoast League opener, 5-3, over Biddeford. William Raisty led the scoring with two goals and an assist, while Brad Ekstrom, Mason Decato and Will McDevitt also added goals. Jeffrey Irizarry, Will Carson and Timothy Drumm played well on defense. Jamie Shatz was solid in net.

Golf results

Kwang Song had the best net score at the Willie Campbell Golf Tournament at Beaver Meadow. Song shot a 66. Mark Coen (68) and Gregg Fournier (69) finished second and third. Greg Champagne shot a 76 for the best gross score. Tom Levins (77) and Eric Saucier (78) finished second and third.

Chichesterโ€™s Mike Koch aced the 133-yard fourth hole at Duston Country Club using a wedge. The shot was witnessed by Fred and Evan Fairneny.

St. Paulโ€™s results

The St. Paulโ€™s School boysโ€™ varsity cross country team competed in a five-team meet. Ben Leach (first, 18:16), Alex Taylor (second, 18:36), Luke Dieterle (ninth), Peter Foulke (12th) and James Pirozzolo (15th) led St. Paulโ€™s.

The St. Paulโ€™s JV boysโ€™ cross country competed in a five-team meet. Kotaro Yabe (first, 20:51), William Albright (fifth), Ery Kehaya (seventh), Garrison Famiglio (eighth), BIlly Hobbs (ninth) and Rex Thors (10th) ran well for the Big Red.

UNH results

Brooke Murphy scored in the third minute for the Wildcats, but UMBC scored three late goals in the second half to lift the Retrievers to a 3-1 victory over the University of New Hampshire womenโ€™s soccer team. UNH is 11-5-1 and UMBC is 4-10-3.

Gianna Bensaia recorded a goal and an assist to lead the UNH field hockey team to a 4-3 victory over UMass-Lowell. Katie Audino, Taylor Safidi and Kayla Sliz also scored for the Wildcats. The Wildcats had a 3-0 halftime lead and netted another goal in the second half before the River Hawks scored three goals in 13 minutes. UNH improved to 6-10 and UMass-Lowell dropped to 8-10.

NHTI results

The NHTI menโ€™s cross country team won the Yankee Small College Conference championship, posting a low score of 23 points. Northwoodโ€™s River Groves (second, 28:25), Newburyโ€™s Andrew Shepard (third, 29:39) and Pembrokeโ€™s Jason Schoeller (fifth) were the top three runners for NHTI. The Lynx will compete at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national meet.

The NHTI womenโ€™s volleyball team won its third-straight Yankee Small College Conference title, defeated top-seeded Unity, 3-0. Mallory Caronis was named Player of the Tournament. Concordโ€™s Molly Emerson was named Defensive Player of the Tournament. NHTI earned an automatic bid to the United States Colligate Athletic Association national tournament.

College standouts

Northwoodโ€™s Julia Cormier, a sophomore on the Franklin Pierce womenโ€™s cross country team, was the second-fastest Raven at the Northeast-10 Championship, clocking a personal-best 6K time of 23:42. Cormier was 45th overall and the Ravens finished 11th out of 15 teams.

Boscawenโ€™s Walker John, a sophomore on the Franklin Pierce menโ€™s cross country team, was the fifth scorer for the Ravens at the Northeast-10 Championship. John finished 63rd in the 8K race in 27:25. Franklin Pierce finished seventh out of 14 teams.

Dunbartonโ€™s Cody Murphy, a junior on the Bentley menโ€™s cross country team, finished 20th overall to help Bentley finish fifth out of 14 teams at the Northeast-10 Championships. Murphy was the third-fastest runner for Bentley, running the 8K course in 25:55.

Chichesterโ€™s John Sanborn, a junior on the Southern New Hampshire University menโ€™s cross country team, ran a 27:31 8K for SNHU at the Northeast-10 Championship. The Penmen finished third.

Pembrokeโ€™s Maddie Bardier, a senior on the SNHU womenโ€™s cross country team, covered the 8K course in 26:28 at the Northeast-10 Championship. The Penmen finished seventh.

Hillsboroโ€™s Panagiotis Galatas assisted on New England Collegeโ€™s only goal as the Pilgrimsโ€™ menโ€™s soccer team dropped a 7-1 decision to Thomas College. NEC dropped to 9-6-2.

Canterburyโ€™s Megan Bailey, a senior on the Plymouth State womenโ€™s volleyball team, posted 44 assists and had 12 digs for the Panthers in a 3-2 victory over Western Connecticut State. Bailey added 25 assists in a 3-0 loss to Clarkson.

Seacoast United Cubs Baseball Club will be offering specialized skills classes for players in the Concord area. The 12-week classes begin Tuesday and will be offered from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays. Second grade pre-season basketball league run by Concord High School basketball coaches Dave Chase and Tim LaTorra will lead volunteer coaches through skills and drills. The league will focus on fundamentals of basketball while also introducing team play. The program runs on Saturdays from Nov. 4 through Dec. 16.

FieldHouse Sports Indoor Sports Facility soccer skills and goalkeeping clinics will begin Nov. 6 and run for six weeks. Clinics will be directed by Jorge Pardo, Director of Caramba Soccer Camps. Clinics are for ages 6-60 for all abilities and meet on Monday afternoons. The cost is $55 for ages 6-8 and $65 for ages 9-adult. Bishop Brady and St. John Athletic Hall of Fame induction will be held on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at Bishop Brady High School. The 2017 inductees include Neil Ackley (class of โ€™69), Robert Paveglio, (โ€™69), Joe Farrelly (โ€™73), John Hardiman (โ€™67), Chelsea Proulx (โ€™06), Scott Laliberte (โ€™85) and Coach Greg Roberts who will receive the Sixth Man Award. The ceremony will also include a special unveiling honoring current Hall of Famer Tinker Foy (โ€™57). Tickets for the event are $45.
