Tone deaf

I’ve been following Ray Duckler’s series on the legal case involving the seized Great Danes – and I must say I find his writing style in these articles very inappropriate.

Duckler seems intent on using what he must feel are clever, humorous plays on words to describe the legal proceedings (especially the aspects that relate to feces and urine). Only there’s nothing humorous about this entire situation. It’s an animal abuse case.

I highly doubt any of the dozens of dogs that were removed due to alleged abuse and neglect found humor in their suffering. I suspect the interventions by law enforcement, humane society staff, veterinarians and other witnesses were on many levels painful and challenging.

All who were or are directly involved – including the Great Danes – deserve dignity and respect in the telling of their plight. Not “witty word plays.” Disappointing, Mr. Duckler.
