Dangerous toys

I read Judy Elliot’s My Turn (Monitor Opinion, Jan. 16), about errors in the nuclear missle services. I also heard a report on NPR about the recent fatal naval accidents in the western Pacific, in which the question was, do naval personnel know how to drive ships? Seriously. We’re spending way too much on dangerous toys, and we don’t seem to care too much what happens to them once the military contractors collect their income from building them.
