An Interstate 93 crash involving a tractor-trailer carrying 50,000 pounds of milk and a contract plow truck for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation slowed traffic in Northfield and Tilton during Thursday’s morning commute.

Just after 7 a.m. Thursday, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation closed the left lane on the southbound side of the highway, near mile marker 54.6 in Northfield, according to the department’s incident map.

Authorities said 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled after the crash. The milk had to be off-loaded by crews.

The crash closed both lanes of traffic for a while. One lane was reopened about 9 a.m.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn’t known.

Southbound traffic extended back to Exit 20 in Tilton and stretched south for about 2 miles, according to Google Maps traffic data.
