Eleven finalists from New Hampshire’s 2018 Poetry Out Loud program competed in the state championship Friday evening at the State House in Concord. New Hampshire Public Radio’s Virginia Prescott hosted the event. Local finalists included Meghan LaCombe of Hopkinton High School, Karina Babina of Trinity Christian School and Shayla Ashley of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy. The winner, Alana Hoskins from Souhegan High, will represent the Granite State in the national competition in Washington, D.C., April 23-25. Hoskin’s alternate is Eleni Spiliotes, from the Holderness School. Last year, more than 7,500 students participated in the New Hampshire program according to the State Council on the Arts.
