A motorcyclist who was reported by other motorists for driving erratically at high speeds on the highway Thursday died after a crash.

Thursday afternoon New Hampshire State Police said they were contacted about a motorcyclist speeding and weaving in and out of traffic while heading southbound on Interstate 93 in the Concord area.

The operator was identified as Wilson Morales, 25, of Lowell, Mass., who was driving a 2007 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle.

Morales was spotted by a state trooper who was stopped along the interstate. As the trooper pulled on to the highway, the motorcycle sped up, police said. The decision was made not to catch up to the motorcycle for safety reasons.

The trooper continued south with traffic and discovered that the motorcycle had crashed near the entrance to the Hooksett rest area on the southbound side of I-93.

Troopers and bystanders attempted to administer medical aid to Morales, who later died of his injuries.

The initial investigation indicated that the Morales lost control of the motorcycle while entering the rest area too fast, police said. The motorcycle went off to the left side of the exit and struck a light pole.

The accident and investigation closed the entrance to the rest area for 2.5 hours, police said.

The crash remains under investigation; those who may have information are asked to call Trooper Daniel Quartulli at 223-8993 or daniel.quartulli@dos.nh.gov.
