Lyndon State College lacrosse players Marcus Bessette (Pembroke) and Brandon Hunter were named to the North Atlantic Conference All-Tournament team for their play in this year’s NAC Championships. Bessette stopped eight of 13 shots against Maine Maritime and 18 of 43 shots against New England College.
University of New Hampshire’s Matthew Adams (Concord) placed eight in the 800m run during the America East Outdoor Championships on Sunday.
Hopkinton Convenient MD defeated Concord Fratello’s, 6-5, on Saturday. For Hopkinton, Adam Richter made several nice plays in the field, Thaddeaus Maughn tagged out the game-tying run at the plate and Liam O’Rourke struck out six in four innings. Colby Boissy picked up three strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief. Cody Charron scored twice, while Gavin Nestler, Jackson Kovar, Tyler Czarkowski and Will Platt all had solid games.
Brines Team Sales beat Hopkinton Yankee Equipment, 5-3, in Concord Northeast Cal Ripken Triple A action. For Hopkinton, Mike DePiano pitched two solid innings, while Josh Moran made a great play on defense. For Brines, Jamey Skafidas played great defense, Wyatt Rockwell added a hit and both Deagan Hines and Logan Hayes combined for a strong effort on the mound.
In Concord Northeast Cal Ripken Majors action, Concord Rowley Agency picked up a win over the Hopkinton Preti Flaherty Honey Badgers. Jackson Nylund played solid defense for Hopkinton, while Zach Hopper had five strikeouts and finished 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. For Concord, Hayden Ford and Brayden Wolff pitched well. Matthew Hooper added a double.
Nolan Wollf had three hits for Sherwin Williams in a win over Hopkinton Olkonen Earthscapes. Cole Hatton and Alex Turant each chipped in with two hits. For Hopkinton, Tyler Gross and Summit Olkonen had one hit and one run apiece.
Bow Rowley Agency defeated the Constantly Pizza Cardinals, 11-5. Brady Lover and Bodi Coffey pitched excellent games for the Cubs, who were led by Luke Laflamme and Ian Soucy at the plate. Aiden Ciminesi picked up three hits for the Cardinals.
The Hopkinton Subway Hawks beat the Merrimack Valley Deck-Rite in Capital Area Babe Ruth Softball action. The Hawks were led by hits from Madison Carmichael and Ella Martel, along with strong pitching from Gina Simpkins. MV received solid pitching from Mari Spears and contributions from Katie Nudd and Morgan Burdick offensively.
In Concord National action, Becket Glass defeated Cimos Deli, 8-7. For Becket, Jackie Ruggles tossed a complete game, while Margot Kennedy played great defense and Ally McGonigle was tough behind the plate. Kennedy Ramos paced Cimos with a solid pitching performance.
In Capital Area Majors softball action, Concord Sulloway and Hollis defeated Concord Outdoor Sports, 7-1. For Sulloway and Hollis, Sarah Taylor, Maddie Kelley and Delaney Duford all had two hits. Taylor and Kelley combined for 10 strikeouts in the circle. For Outdoor Sports, Katie Vlacich pitched well with eight strikeouts. Sophia Vargas finished with two hits.
Sarah Chodosh and Katie Brown both scored twice, but the Hopkinton 12U girls’ lacrosse team lost to Lakes Region, 11-6. Charlotte Presti and Hannah Hoyt also scored for Hopkinton, while Anna Mandh made 12 saves.
Brooke Nelson had several key assists and Emma Pelletier finished with five goals for the Concord Crush 10U girls’ lacrosse team in a 9-5 victory over Bow. Tadu Sirois was strong in goal. On Sunday, Concord defeated Nashua, 8-6. Emma Burnett, Maddie Short, Gracen Arndt, Lexi Magee and Madison Beauregard all played well.
In the Spring Member-Member Tournament at Beaver Meadow Golf Club, Larry Fouts and Scotty Hodgkins paired up to take home first place at plus-19.
Three teams tied for first place in the One Day Member-Member Tournament at Concord Country Club. DJ Knapton and Lee Blossom survived the three-hole playoff to win the title over both Dave Perry and Phil Sapienza, and Bob Mielcarz and Jim Steenbeke. Kathy Barnes and Laura Turner won the Women’s Division with a 7-under.
The Concord Flyers Girls’ Track & Field program will be opening its 27th season on June 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Memorial Field. All area girls ages 7-15 are welcome to join. The season runs from early June to August. Practices will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. Practice meets will be held on Sundays from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. during June. Cost is $90 per athlete. Winnipesaukee Muskrats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League are looking for local families to host players for the upcoming summer season. Players typically range from 19-22 years of age and will arrive the first week of June and leave the first week of August. Host families are asked to provide a spare room with a bed, access to shower and laundry facilities, and occasional meals for their player – typically breakfast. Transportation is not required. Host families are offered free season tickets for their entire household, three free weeks of baseball camp for their children, free admission to all other NECBL venues, and access to special events before and during the season. Concord Flyers Girls Track & Field program will be opening its 27th season on June 4. The program runs from June through early August and is for girls age 7-15. Peak FC , a new non-profit soccer and futsal club launching in June and based out of Pembroke and Concord, will play soccer and train at the NEAC complex in Pembroke and play futsal at the new Concord Community Center. The new club will offer a full-year option (Aug.-June) and also offer seasonal options for kids who are multi-sport athletes. Peak FC will offer beginner and advanced camps, clinics and other training opportunities. Tryouts are scheduled for June 8 and June 22 from 5-8 p.m. at NEAC Fields in Pembroke. Cap City Basketball Spring Skills & Drills clinics will be held every Tuesday through May 29. Concord Parks and Recreation field hockey introduction program is being offered for players ages 2-5. The Elementary School Skills program introduces players to the basic fundamentals needed to be successful in the game of field hockey. Classes progress from technical skill work to small game play. Lady Wildcat Golf Outing with the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team will hold its seventh annual event at Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland on May 18 . Head coach Maureen Magarity invites all fans and supporters of the team to come meet the coaching staff, current players and former Wildcat players for a fun day of golf, lunch and camaraderie.
