The Concord school board has commissioned a demographic study to forecast enrollment trends.
The $16,500 contract will go to Davis Demographics & Planning, Inc., a California-based firm that make enrollment projections seven years into the future.
Student populations statewide have steadily declined, and in Concord the district has consistently seen student numbers dwindle at a rate of about 1 percent each year.
The district had a total enrollment of about 4,400 students this school year, which is a decrease of about 300 students, or about 6 percent, of total enrollment from five years ago.
Administrators had suggested the study because the district is mulling rebuilding its middle school and potentially shifting grades between schools. A report is due out in the fall, and will be presented to the public at a school board meeting.
