A Laconia man was sentenced to more than three years in federal prison Thursday for trafficking methamphetamine in New Hampshire.

James Cunningham, 61, previously pleaded guilty in January to selling methamphetamine on four separate occasions in 2013. Three of the drug sales took place in Manchester and the fourth occurred in Merrimack, according to the U.S. Attorneyโ€™s Office.

Cunningham, a member of the Hells Angels biker gang, will serve 39 months behind bars and then be on supervised release for three years. A judge also ordered him to pay $1,000 fine.

โ€œDrug trafficking crimes cause tremendous damage to our community,โ€ U.S. Attorney Scott Murray said in a statement. โ€œIn addition to the terrible problems of overdoses and addiction, drug trafficking often is associated with violence and can jeopardize the safety of the citizens living in the Granite State.โ€

The case was investigated by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
