Golf

Dan Luker and Mark Puffer won the two-ball best ball event at Concord Country Club on Sunday with a 7-under-par 63. Second place went to Jeff Chandler and Chris Hewey with a score of 66. The ladies of Concord CC played a game of Nassau on Sunday, which awards the low net front nine score, back nine score and total 18-hole score. Andy Jalbert and Lise Swacha tied for the low front-nine score, both shooting net 35. The low back-nine score went to Chris Friedman, who shot 36. The low 18-hole score went to Kathy Barnes, who shot net 73.

Tennis

After a week of rain delays, Mike Bayer won his second Concord City A singles title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over George Lagos. Bayer completed a sweep as he and his partner, Doc Wheeler, took the doubles crown with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mark Blaisdell and Andy Day.

Baseball

The Concord Capitols were eliminated in the semifinals by Hudson, 7-2, in the New England Independent Baseball League playoffs. Max Lamora pitched well in relief and Nick Grimbilas knocked in both of Concord’s runs.

Fishers top Yard Goats

Eduard Pinto hit a two-run home run and had two hits, driving in four, and T.J. Zeuch threw six scoreless innings as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Hartford Yard Goats, 8-1, on Sunday in Connecticut. With the victory, the Fisher Cats swept the four-game series. Zeuch (7-4) picked up the win after he struck out five while allowing five hits. New Hampshire started the scoring with a big fourth inning, when it put up five runs, including a two-run home run by Pinto. The Fisher Cats later added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. In the sixth, Pinto hit a two-run double, while Harold Ramirez hit a solo home run in the seventh. Evan Grills (2-4) went 5⅔ innings, allowing seven runs and seven hits. He also struck out three and walked one. New Hampshire improved to 16-2 against Hartford this season.

Merrimack Valley High School fall sports start on Aug. 13 at 8:30 a.m. except for football and spirit. 10th Annual ForMatt Foundation Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 10 at Derryfield Country Club in Manchester. The non-profit Foundation was formed to honor the memory of Matt Choiniere, a former Concord High student-athlete who passed away in 2008 at the age of 22.
