Sunset League

Grappone Auto defeated Noonan Painting, 7-6, to advance to the championship series against Century 21 Circa 72 in the Concord Sunset League playoffs. Jon Reen pitched well for Grappone, Tom Heath hit a home run and had two RBI, and Doug Heath had the game-winning hit. Brad and Tim Murphy had big hits, and Flynn Marceau pitched well for Noonan.

Hall of famer

Erin Acone, a 2006 graduate of Stonehill College and a native of Bow, will be inducted into the Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame on Aug. 16. Acone was a four-time first team All-American and three-time NE10 Player of the Year over her four-year season with the Stonehill womenโ€™s lacrosse team. She helped lead Stonehill to a 68-8 record overall including a 39-0 mark in the NE10 over her career.

Fisher Cats result

Harold Ramirez hit a bases-clearing double in the second inning, and Gunnar Heidt homered and had two hits as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats topped the Bowie Baysox, 8-3, on Tuesday. The double by Ramirez capped a four-run inning and gave the Fisher Cats a 4-0 lead after Andrew Guillotte hit a sacrifice fly earlier in the inning. Trailing 6-1, the Baysox cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Ryan Mountcastle hit a sacrifice fly and Corban Joseph scored on a wild pitch. The Fisher Cats later tacked on a run in both the sixth and ninth innings. In the sixth, Guillotte hit a solo home run, while Max Pentecost hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Ramirez in the ninth. New Hampshire starter Jon Harris (10-4) picked up the win despite allowing three runs and seven hits over five innings. Opposing starter Brian Gonzalez (4-6) took the loss in the Eastern League game after a rough outing in which he allowed seven runs and 10 hits over 5โ…” innings. With the win, New Hampshire improved to 3-1 against Bowie this season.

Concord Parks & Recreation Boot Camp, 45 minutes of fast, high intensity, sweaty fun, is accepting registrations. Each class is different, using a variety of formats and equipment and will challenge your body in new ways. Classes run Wednesdays from 5-5:45 p.m. from Wednesday to Sept. 12, and Saturdays from 8:15-9 a.m. from Saturday to Sept. 8. Instructed by Jodi Cornell.

Cap City Fall Basketball tryouts will be on Sunday, Aug. 14 (grades pre-K through sixth), Aug. 15 (grades 7-12), Aug. 18 and Aug. 26 for boys and girls of all abilities between pre-kindergarten and 12th grade. Merrimack Valley High School fall sports start on Monday at 8:30 a.m. except for football and spirit. Football equipment handout will be on Thursday for grades 11-12 from 3:30-5 p.m. and on Friday for grades 9-10 from 3:30-5 p.m. Fall spirit tryouts will be on Aug. 20 from 8-10 a.m. at Penacook Elementary School. Athletes starting on Monday will meet on their respective game field in the stands. All athletes must have a physical on file (given after Jan. 1 of athletesโ€™ eighth-grade year) and current ImPact test (must recertify every two years). Physicals and ImPact tests are required prior to trying out. Interscholastic Athletic Agreement forms must be signed by the student-athletes and returned on Aug. 14.

Franklin High School fall sports begin on Monday, but football equipment pick up will be on Friday at 4 p.m. in the FHS Gymnasium. Enter through the boysโ€™ locker room. On Monday, football practice will be from 3-5:30 p.m. at FHS, field hockey will be from 5-7 p.m. at PSS and soccer will be at FMS from 5-7 p.m. Volleyball starts on Aug. 15 at FMS from 4:15-6 p.m. and spirit will meet at FHS from 4:15-6 p.m. All athletes must be registered on FamilyID in order to participate. On Aug. 16 there will be a mandatory meeting with parents, players and coaches in the FHS Cafeteria from 6-7 p.m.

NH Lady Cannons softball tryouts for the 2019 season for the 10U, 12U and 14U teams will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. noon at Concord Sports Center. NFL Flag Football is being offered by Concord Parks and Recreation. It is a league for boys and girls, ages 6-11. The league provides boys and girls the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of football while playing in a safe environment. The league runs Sundays from Sept. 9 to Oct. 21. Ages 6-8 meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m., ages 9-11 meet from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and ages 12-14 meet 1:30-3:30 p.m. Final signup deadline is Aug. 24.

FieldHouse Sports Indoor Facility fall indoor soccer leagues are accepting registrations. Leagues offered for adults are men 18-plus, men 30-plus, women 25-plus and adult coed.
