The Hopkinton JV boys’ soccer team (3-0) defeated Prospect Mountain, 4-0. Aidan Burns made five saves for the shutout. Rory Campbell, Gabe Lopez, Andrew Zankel and Thomas Hoffman scored one goal each. Hunter Boissy had two assists and Spencer Burdette controlled the game with strong defensive play.
Isabelle Danahy scored her first career goal to tie the game, 1-1, but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team fell to Providence, 2-1. UNH goalie Kelsey Rudert made five saves. The Wildcats dropped to 1-3, while Providence improved to 3-3.
John Stark sophomore Alex Pike played on the U.S. National Youth Futsal team over the summer in a tournament in Colombia. Pike played goalie in the first half of two matches, keeping a clean sheet both times, and also scored one goal in each match. Pike’s performance earned her a selection to a special training session in Barcelona, Spain in March 2019 with the top European futsal coaches and with some of the best futsal players from around the world. Pike also plays for the John Stark girls’ varsity soccer team.

New England Wolves 18U, 16U split-season and U14 hockey teams are in search of a few more players for the upcoming fall season. The 18U and 16U teams are open to experienced skaters in birth years 2000-03. The U14 team is open to experienced skaters born in 2004 or 2005. The Wolves are members of the New England Premier Hockey League and play out of the Plymouth State Ice Arena and Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia. Andover Lions Club 13th Annual Golf Tournament will be held at the Country Club of New Hampshire in Sutton on Sept. 17. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the tournament begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $95 per golfer to enter, which includes green fees, cart, various contests, prizes and lunch. There will be open, ladies and senior divisions. All proceeds go to screening sight and hearing of school-children and provide glasses as needed. 28th annual Hopkinton New Hampshire Lions Club 5K Road Race and 2.5 Fitness Walk will be on Oct. 6. Race begins at 11 a.m. and the fitness walk will start at 11:05 a.m. The course starts and ends at Slusser Senior Center in Contoocook. Proceeds will benefit the Lions’ Sight and Hearing Programs. CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship is set for March 16 at SNHU Arena in Manchester. Tryouts for Team Fire are Sept. 22 (2-3 p.m.), Sept. 28 (7:15-8:15 p.m.) and Oct. 6 (3:15-4:15 p.m.). Tryouts for Team Police are Sept. 22 (3:15-4:15 p.m.), Sept. 28 (6-7 p.m.) and Oct. 6 (2-3 p.m.). All tryouts are at Sullivan Arena at Saint Anselm College. Potential players must attend at least one tryout. Eligible participants include local and state police officers, sheriffs, marshals, homeland security, dispatchers, and corrections officers; full and part-time, call, and volunteer firefighters, dispatchers, and EMT/paramedics. Rosters will be announced in October with orientation, fundraising, and practices beginning in November. The event and its participants raise money for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth.
