The best investment our state can make for its future is high-quality public education for our students. I originally ran for the state Senate last year to advocate for state funding of public schools and help our communities educate our children.
This means making sure our schools have the supplies they need to help our children learn and our teachers are fairly compensated for the dedication and commitment they show our children. Many teachers work above and beyond supporting our kids, preparing lessons and correcting papers on their own time. We need to support them with the same passion for the tremendous work they do.
My opponent supports school voucher programs, which takes funding away from public schools. He criticized my commitment to public school safety. The lockdown at Central High School in Manchester was not just a news story for me; two of my children were in the lockdown. I would like to thank the teachers and staff, working along with the Manchester Police Department, in keeping our children and the entire community safe. We need to stand with our public schools, and I will be the advocate the communities in District 16 deserve.
