A Concord man accused of stabbing and seriously injuring another patron at the Draft Sports Bar & Grill late last month will be held without bail pending a further hearing Monday.
At that time, a judge will determine whether Kyle Anderson poses a danger to himself and/or the community and, if so, he will be detained pending trial on felony assault and other charges. Anderson waived his initial arraignment Thursday and did not appear before a judge in Merrimack County Superior Court.
Anderson, 35, was arrested by Concord police late Wednesday on a warrant charging him with one count each of first-degree assault and second-degree assault, as well as two counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.
Police responded to the Draft at 67 S. Main St., on Oct. 20 shortly after 12:30 a.m. for a report of a man who had suffered multiple stab wounds to the right side of his upper torso, along the ribs. The victim โ who had never met Anderson โ was taken by ambulance to Concord Hospital and subsequently flown to Brigham and Womenโs Hospital in Boston for further treatment. Concord police Lt. Sean Ford said Thursday the victim has since been released from the hospital and was interviewed at the police station Oct. 24.
Just prior to the stabbing, Anderson had intentionally bumped into a woman and then had a physical confrontation with the womanโs friend, causing a fight to ensue. As a result of the disagreement, a man โhad wordsโ for Anderson, who responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing him, police said.
Police said they identified Anderson through detailed video surveillance footage taken from the bar area.
Through their investigation, police learned that Anderson had also been involved in several other altercations with patrons of the bar before the stabbing. Police said Anderson, who appeared to be intoxicated, approached two other men not known to him and grabbed one of them by the groin. He then is accused of displaying a knife and holding it against the neck of another stranger.
Surveillance video shows Anderson reaching into the front, right pocket of his jeans and pulling out what appears to be a utility pocket knife, which he then brought up to the victimโs face, according to a sworn affidavit.
Police spoke with several people at the Draft, including Anderson who had a swollen left eye and a cut on his nose, the affidavit says. He initially said he didnโt know anything about the stabbing and said his injuries were unrelated.
But on the ride home from the Draft, he allegedly told a friend that he โstabbed the other kid to get him off of him.โ
A bail hearing to determine dangerousness under the new bail law, which took effect Aug. 31, is scheduled for Monday morning in Concord.
Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident or Anderson to contact Ford at 225-8600 or the Concord Regional Crimeline at 226-3100. Concord police are also still investigating and seeking information about an incident where a firearm was discharged at the Draft on Feb. 10, 2017.
