We are writing to support Mary Beth Walz, who is running for re-election to the N.H. House representing Bow and Dunbarton.

We lost our first child to Krabbe Leukodystrophy, a rare genetic disease that if caught in newborn testing can be successfully treated, but if not found at birth is always fatal in the first years of life. In support of our son’s senior project at Bow High School, Mary Beth introduced a bill to require testing at birth in New Hampshire for this disease. Her efforts were above and beyond anything we expected.

Before introducing the bill, she thoroughly educated herself on all aspects of the disease. She worked with our son preparing a national expert on the disease who flew in from Seattle to testify before the Legislature. She helped our son prepare his own presentation, which was praised by all who heard and read it.

Mary Beth gave a moving speech to the entire House stating the urgent need for widespread testing. It is easy to think that all representatives are more concerned with issues advocated by lobbyists and big organizations, instead of the rare cause that can stop human suffering.

Mary Beth Walz proved to our family she is the exception. Please join us recognizing we need a representative who cares about individuals by re-electing Mary Beth Walz to the N.H. House of Representatives.
