NOFA-NH and Vital Communities will host a free farmer mixer and panel discussion on fair labor and CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliances for Farmer Training) apprenticeship models at the award-winning Three Tomatoes Trattoria restaurant in Lebanon on Dec. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants are invited to come and enjoy a local meal, meet other farmers, and learn from a knowledgeable panel of farmers and experts discussing fair labor practices and the CRAFT apprenticeship model, with a focus on the experiences of Vital Communitiesโ Upper Valley CRAFT program. Center for the Arts Lake Sunapee Region chairwoman Jean Cronin Connolly announced the Best of Show and First Place winners of the 7th Annual Juried Art Show at the New London Inn reception, Friday. Best of Show was awarded to Louise Morin Dichard of Hudson for her painting Dusk Falling, Camp Ellis, Maine. Roger Wells of Sutton received First Place for his painting American Heartland. The art show is open now through January at the New London Inn CFA MicroGallery.
Wreaths Across Dunbarton will be celebrated on Dec. 8 (second Saturday in December). Festivities start at 10 a.m. with a short ceremony and the laying of a wreath at the statue of Maj. Caleb Stark on the Town Commons. There will be Revolutionary War re-enactors including General John Stark (Richard Wright) and his troops for a musket salute. Volunteer family, friends and neighbors will then be dispatched to place the wreaths in the four local cemeteries, East Cemetery on Robert Rogers Road, Center Cemetery by the town offices, Pages Corner Cemetery on Stark Highway North and Stark Cemetery. On Dec. 5 at 1 p.m., volunteers will be attaching the red bows to the 192 wreaths at 32 Birchview Drive in Flintlock Farms.
