GilfordCandlelight stroll

All are invited to Gilford on Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. for Gilford’s fourth annual Candlelight Stroll. Hundreds of lights will line the street from the 1857 Grange building at 8 Belknap Mountain Road to the 1838 Rowe House at 88 Belknap Mountain Road. The road will be closed to traffic, with plenty of free parking in the Gilford Elementary School parking lot beside the Rowe House and in the Gilford Community Youth Center/Church and Library parking lots at 8 Potter Hill Road. The stroll is free of charge and open to all who are interested in getting away from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping and settle in to the real holiday spirit in the quiet of Gilford Village where you can stroll, enjoy listening to holiday carolers, treat yourself to a s’more by the bonfire, and visit Santa at the Village Field Gazebo. Strollers can also enjoy the activities offered at the Gilford Library and at the three historical buildings that line the strolling course. This event is dedicated in loving memory of Jerry LaCroix and Ike, Gilford Police dog. A full schedule of events can be obtained the night of the stroll at any of the open buildings along the route. The Gilford Library’s community room (downstairs) will host the Gilford Elementary School Band from 5 to 5:20 p.m., then you can get your boogie on during line dancing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Also in the library’s Children’s Room, your child can make a holiday ornament. Please contact Katherine at 524-6042 or Katherine@gilfordlibrary.org or Kathy at xteachkl@metrocast.net for more information.

MeredithLots of happy tails

Tail wags, head bumps, purrs and chirps. That’s how the animals living at the N.H. Humane Society would say “thank you” to the small army of 80 guests, volunteers, and friends who made the second-annual Wags, Whiskers & Wine fundraiser a success. The event held Oct. 21 raised nearly $10,000 that will directly benefit all of the animals at the society’s shelter in Laconia. To give to or learn more about getting involved with N.H. Humane Society or its volunteer programs, contact Rick Dumont at 524-3252.
