A gift to the community

Once again on Sunday, the Concord Community Chorus and Orchestra gave the holiday gift of Handle’s Messiah to the Concord community. At St. Paul’s church, a full house heard the joy of 70 voices, four outstanding soloists and a 14-piece chamber orchestra. Since 1931 the Walker Lecture Series has sponsored this annual event.

Under the direction of Ben Greene, the chorus has been practicing every Sunday since October working on the mastery of Handle memorial oratorio. Sitting in the chorus, I could feel the magic of the music. The sound of the orchestra, the clarity of the soloists, the dynamism of the voices from the chorus – it was special gift for those in attendance. This could not have happened without the mastery of Ben Green. Ben has been the conductor for the past 12 years. Each year, he has challenged us to become better. Sunday night was the culmination of hard work. The holiday season is now upon us ushered in by the sound of Handle’s music.

Thank you, Ben, for this gift to the community.
