One man was seriously injured in an apartment fire at The Pines of West Concord early Saturday morning.

Concord firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Pines on 20 Bog Road about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus wrote in a news release. Firefighters reported seeing smoke and flames on the top floor of the three-story apartment building when they arrived.

A man was located on the third floor and taken to Concord Hospital where he was then transported by air ambulance to a regional burn center with life-threatening injuries. One other person was evaluated for smoke inhalation but refused treatment, Andrus said.

A second alarm was called about 15 minutes after Concord firefighters arrived at the building, bringing units from seven area fire departments to assist. The fire was declared under control about 3:25 a.m., Andrus said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews from Bow, Chichester, Pembroke, Boscawen, Hopkinton, Franklin and the Penacook Rescue team assisted Concord firefighters. Crews from Manchester, Epsom, Loudon, Hopkinton and Tritown Ambulance provided coverage in the area during the incident.
