On Fort Eddy Road, just south of the Interstate 393 bridge over the Merrimack River, you will notice a homeless camp. These homeless folks park two vehicles on a property that falls under the jurisdiction of the state of New Hampshire. I am tempted to place a sign that reads “Free waterfront camping. The only prerequisite is a reckless disregard for the environment. You must litter.”

It is difficult to understand why these people are allowed to squat with impunity. Who will ultimately be in charge of cleaning up their mess?

I have concern for the homeless and would happily sit on any committee seeking a solution to this problem in Concord. In the meantime, the state of New Hampshire, in cooperation with Concord police, needs to exercise some authority. Camping is not authorized on public property in Concord and for good reason.
