I took the 23 and Me genetic test as I was curious about health markers, but I know the genealogy of my family on both sides, just like Elizabeth Warren supposedly does.
With Warren announcing her exploratory bid for president I thought about her spurious claims of Native American ancestry. My DNA results revealed that I am 1/32 Native American, much greater than Warren. I remember my grandmother telling me that her father was part Abenaki, and she honestly did have high cheekbones. I guess she was right as now I am delving more into the genealogy of her family.
If I followed the Warren rule, I guess I could claim Native American status on loan applications, employment applications and other documents, and receive preferential treatment.
Unlike Warren I am not a shameless, self-serving opportunist who would use false minority status to garner special treatment and benefits. I am sure that our double-tiered justice system would also treat me differently than a connected progressive ideologue.
Warren listed herself as a minority in the Association of American Law Schools directory and allowed Harvard to tout her as “Native American.” The bottom line is that she consciously checked the box.
If progressives have principles and truly value the letter of EEOC law and spirit of affirmative action, they would rebuke Warren based on her actions and character alone. Moreover, Warren’s net worth is close to $18 million, making her a member of the dreaded 1 percent.
