I have known Byron Champlin for more than 20 years. We served on many nonprofit boards together, including Byron succeeding me as board chair of the Capitol Center for the Arts. We are Leadership New Hampshire classmates and currently serve together on the cityโs planning board.
Several months ago, Byron asked me to become the fiscal agent of his campaign for the open at-large city council seat. I agreed.
While working with Byron these last years, I was impressed with his reasoned approach to decision-making and his gentle demeanor in dealing with those who might disagree with him and with those who needed a little prodding in order to accomplish the task at hand. What I didnโt know about Byron was his deep love for our city and his passion to serve its citizens.
Byron is a champion for preserving our distinct neighborhoods, open spaces and architectural gems that make our community what it is. Byron also has his eye on the future and welcomes common-sense expansion of our tax base and housing.
As members of city government can succeed only with the help of other city officials, Byron is the type of well-respected leader who can gather support from those around him to accomplish common goals.
Many of you know Byron better than I, and we would both appreciate your vote for him on March 5 so we can all get to know him even better.
