Due to the unfortunate passing of Jeff Jordan, Chichester is electing two selectmen, for 1 and 3 year terms. I’m running for the 3 year term.
I’ve served the town on the budget committee for 10 years and believe that experience will help me as selectman. I’m fiscally conservative but understand Chichester can’t run for free. Roads don’t get plowed for free, our police and fire departments are necessary assets that come at significant cost. We cannot allow government to grow bigger year after year without good cause.
For the past 5 years revenues have been flat, hovering around $1 million while the budget has increased. In 2015 our budget was approximately $2 million; in 2019 it’s $3.3 million (a 65 percent increase). Property taxes make up the difference. Most saw an increase due to the 2018 re-evaluation; without a change these increases will continue.
How can I help? Fortunately my job keeps me in Chichester and allows significant time to dedicate to the town. Being a small-business owner I understand trade offs and some things must be put off until finances allow. I have the background, time, energy and desire to help keep Chichester the great town it is while keeping it an affordable place to live.
