Three men were sent to the hospital with injuries following a crash on Route 202 in Henniker during Thursday’s evening commute.
Police say a Ford pickup truck driven by Michael Smith, 65, of Sebago, Maine, was traveling west about 4:40 p.m. when it crossed the center line and hit the guardrail on the eastbound side. The truck ricocheted across the road hitting the opposite guardrail and then crossed the road again, this time hitting a Chevy SUV driven by Mark Willoughby, 61, of Rochester. The truck then collided head-on with a Jeep Wrangler driven by Peter Drao, 52, of Voorheesville, N.Y.
All three men were taken to Concord Hospital by rescue teams from Henniker, Hillsborough and Hopkinton. Smith was later transported to a Boston Hospital. Police did not know the extent of their injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The highway was closed in both directions for more than an hour. Downtown Henniker and Old Concord Road were congested as traffic was redirected through town.
First-responders from Bradford, Hopkinton and Hillsborough, as well as state police, assisted Henniker police and fire crews.
