Center Woods Elementary, Center Woods Upper Elementary, and Weare Middle Schools held their Invention Conventions in February. The Invention Convention is part of The Young Inventor’s Program administered by The Academy of Applied Science in Concord.
There were three categories of inventions: General (solves everyday problems), Challenge (The Next Hit Toy), and Rube Goldberg Machines (a complicated machine that accomplishes a simple task using a chain reaction). All students presented their inventions to a panel of staff and community member judges, enhancing both their social and public speaking skills. Winners will compete at the Regional Convention on March 31 at Southern New Hampshire University.
Center Woods Elementary winners were: Landon Fairhurst with the Dartbuster, first place general; Emily Austin with Asthma Rescue 3000, second place general; Grace Meisser with the Claw-inator, third place general; Everett Chapman with the Backpack Sled, winner of challenge; Ashley and Hailey Thellen with Ball Blaster, winner Rube Goldberg and first place kids’ choice; Hailey Van Bost with Watersheild, second place kids’ choice; and Maddix Cyr with Inside Feeder, third place kids’ choice.
Center Woods Upper Elementary winners were: Autumn Duquette with Foot Checker, general winner; Sydney Barrieau with Shower Chandelier, general winner; Gabe Mathieu and Owen Veilleux with Fidget Wand, challenge winner; Sadie Sargent and Savannah Chapman with Ball at Dark, challenge winner.
Weare Middle School winners were: Sadie McCallum with W.O.W, general winner: Fiona Winsor and Cassidy Luger with Hoodphones, general winner; Khloe Burgess with Klo-Motions, challenge winner.
