There’s a new Republican mantra, “Taxes are Theft.”
During N.H. House speeches this week, we heard this no less than six times.
As the 2020 campaigns are starting, I think it’s a good time to try to obtain an explanation of this new Republican mantra.
As the leading Republican, the governor is repeatedly calling out the Democrats on “hundreds of millions” in spending. He is also threatening to use his red veto pen repeatedly.
I realize this governor is an inexperienced politician, but I’m wondering if he knows from where the state revenue originates? Does he think it’s manna from heaven?
Do they imagine a state without tax revenue to operate services for its citizens? How would our towns and schools be administered? How would our roads and bridges be built or maintained? How would our police and fire departments keep us safe?
We pay our taxes to support our community, which contributes to the common good. Many in this world would gladly pay taxes to have what we have.
I’m anxiously awaiting a Republican response.
