A subheading in the Forum section on March 21 states that Israel is not a democracy. Compared to what? The People’s Republic of China? The nation of Jordan under a king? Saudi Arabia? Cuba?
Good grief! Israel does have rival political parties. Its citizens periodically kick out by free election prime ministers who lose favor. It is surrounded by Muslim dictatorships that call for its destruction. Its military victories over three or four surrounding hostile Muslim nations have repeatedly shown that it has the right to limit its elections to citizens of the Jewish ancient religion.
