The Mueller investigation has closed and it should have been an opportunity for political sides to come together. Instead, there are still many questions to answer.

The attorney general’s four-page summary of an almost 400-page investigation has muddied the waters. The president has claimed full exoneration while Robert Mueller was quoted as saying something quite different on the matter of obstruction. We need to hear from Mueller. Both sides of the aisle have called for this, and the president said he had no problem with the release of the full report. Then and only then can we have some much-needed closure.

For his part, the president has gone on the attack. Instead of calming the waters, he has stirred the pot with his usual vitriol. He has accused some of the investigators of “treasonous” behavior. He seems to prefer confrontation to cooperation.

As Sgt. Joe Friday used to say on Dragnet, “We need the facts, just the facts.” Both politicians and the media need to stop wildly spinning the truth. No wonder citizens feel dazed and confused.

On a different but related topic, are we now equating sexual assault and sincere affection? It seems we all need a primer on good and bad touch as well as respectful dialogue in matters of gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
