The writer of a recent opinion piece takes umbrage with the fact that the U.S. government works closely with the government of Israel on issues of security (Monitor Opinion, March 30). He also scoffs at the concept of “shared values” by the people of the two nations. Absent is any mention of shared uniquely Judeo/Christian biblical values.

He objects as undemocratic the right of a people to have a unique Jewish state. He apparently sees a problem in the denial of the vote to Muslim folks who are now living inside Israel’s borders. They do have, in fact, free residence, free speech, freedom to work as they will, and freedom to believe their own faith and to worship as they wish, without harassment. Not true in Muslim countries.

The writer seems oblivious to the multitude of violent acts of terrorism by Muslims in Israeli cities – even women entering and blowing themselves up – killing innocent men, women and children. Improving security is still very necessary in both nations.
