Hopkinton 5, Conant 4, 8 inn.
Key players: Hopkinton – Megan Kimball-Rhines (2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI; 4 no-hit IP, 6 K), Megan Blanchette (2-for-2, HR, run, RBI), Brooke Carlson (double), Katie Meserve (double)
Highlights: The teams traded three home runs each and the score was tied, 4-4, after seven innings, but the Hawks escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the eighth thanks to Kimball-Rhines striking out the last two batters of the inning. Kally Murdough walked with one out and a fake-bunt and steal caused the Oriole defense to leave second base vacant. Murdough ran home after Conant’s throw to the vacant base went into the outfield and Murdough narrowly beat the throw home.
Coach’s quote: “Really fun game today, two good teams, strong pitching, nice hitting, and even better that the Hawks came out on top.” – Hopkinton’s Dan Meserve
Records: Hopkinton 3-0; Conant 0-1
