I was deeply moved by Katherine Solomon’s “My Turn” article regarding Earth Day (Monitor Opinion, April 22). She was eloquent and loving in her characterization of treating Earth as a daughter. We would do well to heed her words of wisdom and ask ourselves each day what we have done to help the planet, our beloved daughter.
Scientists have labeled this time as the “Anthropocene” era, the first time a species has held sway over the climate. It promises to be an existential struggle for us and all the remaining species on Earth. We would not lose heart with our children; we must not lose heart with the Earth.
