Without our Constitution the United States would probably fall back onto a political structure akin to feudalism, relatively speaking, the dark ages. Political parties would fragment further along religious, racial, ethnic and economic fault lines already in existence. Our Constitution provides the structures necessary to establish the checks and balances that provide stability for our nation.
Our president and his political enablers are a threat to our form of government. What initially had been a violation of behavioral, social and political norms has now become a direct challenge to written law, as witnessed by the executive branch’s refusal to honor legitimate subpoenas from Congress.
Unlike the leaders of Russia and North Korea, our president is subject to the checks and balances of the Constitution. The oath of office taken by executive and legislative branch members must be honored (i.e., to protect and defend the Constitution). If not, dark ages beckon.
