The column by Dick Lemieux (Monitor Opinion, May 18) casting commuter rail in New Hampshire as fiscal folly uses a spurious analogy: that of Rhode Island expanding its commuter rail service to a small town in a less-densely populated southern county. Given New Hampshireโ€™s priority interest in connecting our major southern cities with a route to Boston, wouldnโ€™t the more appropriate analogy be the popular rail service in Rhode Island from Providence to Boston? Iโ€™m not familiar with that specific ridership data, but I suspect it reflects a success story that should not be disregarded.
