ConcordBeecology

Dr. Robert Gegear, professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and founder of the Beecology Project, will update participants on the decline of wild pollinators and the importance of collecting critical ecological information that is needed to develop effective conservation and restoration strategies for threatened pollinator species. The talk, “Beecology: a Citizen Scientist Helping Pollinators,” will be held June 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McLane Audubon Center. The Beecology project was developed to recruit citizen scientists from across the region to digitally collect and submit ecological data on native pollinators. You will learn and practice data collection using the smartphone and web apps developed through this project. Time spent in the NHA pollinator gardens will allow participants to use the online visualization tools to collect data needed to improve the quality of native pollinator habitats.

New LondonCollege raises $160,000

Colby-Sawyer’s first Day of Giving far exceeded its goal of 300 gifts in 24 hours – 837 alumni, students, parents, grandparents, trustees, friends, faculty and staff made gifts on April 18 that totaled $163,532. Matching gift challenges throughout the day of $25,000 from the Board of Trustees, plus $10,000 from a former board member, helped motivate donors to give. All of the funds raised during the Day of Giving add to the nearly $44 million raised thus far in support of the Power of Infinity Campaign with its $60 million goal, the largest in the college’s history.
