I would like to thank everyone in Ward 4 who came out to vote on June 4. In the last special election, we had 227 voters, but this time we had 303. At approximately 7% and 10% of the eligible voters, neither is a great turnout. But it’s an almost 34% increase, which is incredible. You folks turning out did this. Each of you is to be commended.
We also had more than 15 new voters sign up, where the election moderator said it would normally be one. One person took a cab to vote. A young man of 18 voted for the first time.
I am especially honored by the 99 votes I received. Thank you! We did very well, all things considered. And we had fun. Some will say we lost, but I don’t think so. We motivated voters and the spirit. Thanks to those who worked on my campaign; you were good foxhole companions. And thanks to the election volunteers.
As much as Concord professes to be a community, I believe it has a long way to go, and it’s not alone in that respect. We’re at an impasse of the haves and have nots. Even our voting ward seems to be divided that way.
Knowledge is a good thing. I have been freed and cleansed and can go back to pushing pencils and cleaning toilets. I was blessed and eased by those 99 voters.
