Chris Sununu’s fixation on more tax breaks for big corporations, and getting his own way, seems to block him from providing any rational statement on the budget.
The Democratic budget finally addresses the child protection crisis facing the state, something Sununu hasn’t led on. It provides more than $200 million in property tax relief. It has the greatest increase in education funding in two decades, since Gov. Jeanne Shaheen. And it funds the 10-year mental health plan, including dealing with the emergency room boarding of mental health patients.
No one gets everything they want. Sen. Dan Feltes helped shepherd this budget through the process, made tough and creative compromises, and he certainly didn’t get everything he wanted. We often have to tell our children about the tough lessons of compromise and not getting everything you want. We shouldn’t have to do the same for our governor.
Gov,. Sununu should get over it. Sign the budget, and let us move forward.
