■The movie matinee at the library this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. is Bottle Shock. It’s 1976 in the Napa Valley, and a small American winery and its workers are about to show the French that the world’s finest wines will now come in red, white and blue. This is based in a true story, and the movie stars the late Alan Rickman. The Hollywood Reporter says this film pours out the laughs.

■Please forward a submission for “Citizen of the Year 2019” to the Epsom Old Home Day Association care of Georgia Perry, 190 North Road. Submissions should include detailed information about the candidate and should be received by July 26.

■The Pembroke Recreation Department will offer eight tennis lessons at Pembroke Academy on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 8 to 31. Registration forms are available at the Town Hall and should be in by Wednesday. You must sign up between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Third-grade students and under, will have lessons from 4 to 4:45 p.m., and fourth- through eighth-grade students will have lessons from 5 to 6 p.m. Lessons cost $30 for residents and $40 for nonresidents. People 14-years-old and up will have lessons from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. They will cost $30 for residents who are in high school, $40 for residents who are adults and $50 for nonresidents. ■The FB Argue Recreation Area, both the town pool and beach area, is now open for the summer season. It will be open from Monday to Friday, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The daily admission for residents is $1 per person. A family season pass may be bought for $50. Daily admission for nonresidents will be $1.50. All persons entering will be expected to pay, and children under 5 will be admitted free with a paying adult.

■Red Cross swimming lessons will be offered again this summer. Registration will be held at the recreation area. Three two-week sessions will be held, and every lesson will run for a half-hour. The first session will be in the daytime from Monday to July 12, with no lessons on July 4. The second session will be in the nighttime from July 15 to July 26. The third session will be in the daytime from August 5 to August 16. The cost for swimming lessons for Pittsfield residents will be $15 per child per session. ■July 13 is Old Home Day. We suggest using 11 by 2 inch paper in any colors. Completed chains can be dropped off at the library, Jitters Café or Epping Well.

■Decorate a tomato cage into a Christmas tree, angel, reindeer or any other holiday decoration and bring it to Drake Field on July 13 by 8:30 p.m., before the fireworks, and the public will judge them in a contest for Old Home Day. ■The Old Home Day cook-off this year is Christmas cookies. Bake a batch, 1 to 2 dozen, of your favorite Christmas cookies and deliver them by 9 a.m. on July 13 to Dustin Park at the 4-H booth. Winners will be chosen by popular vote. Cash prizes will be awarded – $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Anyone is invited to participate. ■The Suncook Valley Rotary Club will be sponsoring the movie Polar Express on July 12 to kick off Old Home Day. The movie is free and is under the stars at Drake Field. The approximate start time is 8:30 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket. Refreshments will be available to purchase. Rotary’s Walk Through Balloon will be set up at Drake Field from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

■The Old Home Day Car Show on Main Street will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The first 60 participating cars will receive a $5 voucher from select vendors. Bring your vintage, classic, hot rod, rat rod or just cool car or truck. There will also be a Touch-A-Truck area.

The sewer service will be unavailable during the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the dates that house locations will be affected. Dates and times may be adjusted due to weather.
