I was disappointed to read the N.H. Democratic Party’s spokeperson’s personal attack on Gordon MacDonald as being a “political operative.”
Like many fellow lawyers, he was engaged in political campaigns. This does not make him unfit for office nor should it subject him to vilification. One of his earliest mentors was Gordon Humphrey, who is now a strident voice for Donald Trump’s impeachment. In the response to the Democratic Party’s statement, the Republican Party responded with insipid foolishness – calling the opposition to be motivated by the attorney general’s prosecution of former State Sen. Jeff Woodburn. Both statements cheapened the debate.
Gordon is decent, intelligent and fully deserving of an honest debate of his qualifications to serve as Chief Justice.
