Public safety, once upon a time, was a concern of the local law enforcement people, but no more. Take a walk up and down the main drag in Concord and look for a constable on patrol. You won’t see one. Maybe in the summer you will see an officer on a motorcycle or pedal bike, but you can hardly regard this as a public safety officer on patrol. As a consequence, you have motor vehicles jumping pedestrian walkways. You have all manner of jaywalking as people cross any old place on Main Street. This disregard for public safety sends a bad message to the general public. We need at least one officer walking on patrol in high-traffic areas.
