The NH Lightning 12U Softball Team (19-5-5) took second place in the Turn 2 Tournament. The road to the championship included wins against No. 7 ECF, No. 2 RI Rampage and No. 3 NY Miss Scotties before falling to the NH Comets, 3-2, in extra innings. Team members include Lilly Hackett, Ally McGonigle, Liv Seeley, Madi Cuhna, Camryn, Soso Vargas, Briar Halle, Kayla Smith, Stephanie Elrick, Katie Blinn and Wren Amrol, and the team is coached by Anthony Blinn, Kirk McGonigle and James Amrol.
Dick Howe finished atop the Round 11 leaderboard in the Beaver Meadow Golf Course Senior League with a net score of 71. Paul Tremblay (72), Arnie Green (74), Don Feith (77) and Charles Lepore (78) rounded out the top five for the week. Dennis Johnson sits in first in the overall standings with 80 points, followed by Russ Matthews (60) and Sherm Barrett (50).
โ Debra Douglas led the field in the Nassau Tournament at the Concord Country Club with a 7-under-par round of 65 for the best net total. Martha Hastings finished first in the gross portion with a round of 87. Nancy Geiger had the best front nine net with a 6-under-par round of 30. Cindall Morrison had the best back nine net with a 3-under-par round of 33. Andy Jalbert had the best front nine gross with a round of 47. And Gretchen Knapton and Kristin Sullivan both had the best back nine gross with rounds of 47.
The 5th Annual Rock On Fest will feature eight basketball games in downtown Concord on Aug. 4. Hillsboro-Deering High School fall sports will begin Aug. 19 for all teams, except for football (Aug. 16) and bass fishing (Aug. 12). Football practice will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the HDHS football field, while the details of bass fishing practice will be announced at a later date. 47th Annual Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb will be on Aug. 17 at 8:30 a.m. The first male and female finishers will each win $1,500.
