I respect differing opinions, and I have never believed that one political party has all the answers. I hoped for elected persons to serve, not just serve their own re-election base. I have voted for Republicans and Democrats in town, state and national elections, depending on their values. What is important to me is a consistent moral voice that serves the common good.

What does this mean? It is a voice that does not engage in war unreasonably because beloved lives are at stake. It is a voice that does not justify decisions by setting up false division and fear-mongering. It is a voice that recognizes international allies. It is a voice that sides with the struggling in our country, rather than blaming them. It is a voice for fair wages of all labors, so workers can have good housing. It is a voice for public education and a clean environment, so all children grow up educated and healthy. It is a voice that recognizes taking assault-type weapons off the street does not infringe on gun-owners’ rights. It is a voice that does not belittle or name-call persons because they challenge policies. It is a voice for a humane immigration policy that does not hold people seeking asylum in cages. It is a voice that takes responsibility when inciting racism to maintain a white status quo.

Mr. President, you are not that voice. Your tweets and policies pander to the underlying racism in our country. Let’s send you back.
