Saturday was a nice day for biking, or swimming, or hiking in the White Mountains. About 300 brave souls decided to do all three at the 27th annual Top Notch Triathlon this weekend.

More than 300 racers rode their bikes from the town of Franconia to Echo Lake in Franconia Notch, a 6 mile ride. From there, they swam a half-mile across the lake and then rambled 2½ miles up Cannon Mountain, which is one of the state’s 4,000-footers.

The total vertical gain for the race was 3,320 feet, organizers said.

Many competitors were top-notch athletes, some were just “weekend warriors” and a few were families who did it together.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Lafayette Recreation Department, which covers the communities of Franconia, Easton, and Sugar Hill, as well as the Franconia Life Squad. Some participants finished the race close to one hour and 15 minutes. Some a the back of the pack finished the ordeal in four hours.
