I fear similarities are growing between Sen. Mitch McConnell and Gov. Chris Sununu.
Both have vowed to serve the people, but each has let us down. Recently, our governor vetoed the budget that was passed by both chambers, which would help families, support education, provide help in social services and aid small businesses in favor of keeping the business tax cuts, with a price tag of $90 million. Then he insulted New Hampshire residents further by joyously holding a โVeto Auctionโ for his supporters to bid on veto memorabilia. This veto was number 40 (far more than any other N.H. governor has done) and his pen is poised to veto even more. Bills that he has said he would veto affect the safety of New Hampshire adults and children. Allegedly, he will veto a bill that would impose a three-day waiting period between the purchase and delivery of a gun. A second bill would require background checks for all firearms sales or transfers. In light of the increase in mass murders, can he say such violence will not happen in New Hampshire?
Lastly, accessibility is an issue. Many people have complained that when calling the governorโs number to voice an opinion, either no one answers or, in one case, a letter confirmed the call but did not contain the proper opinion about the issue. I am beginning to see the emergence of a Mini-McConnell who continues to turn a deaf ear to the needs of the people he should be helping while supporting corporations and the NRA.
