Once again our country has witnessed more mass shootings in which multiple people are shot and killed in less than a minute. We can blame this on mental health issues and violent videos, but we know other developed countries have citizens with mental health issues and have violent videos. Those countries are not, however, afflicted with such mass killings.

The difference is the easy access to assault/military weapons of war here in America. Banning assault weapons will not take away anyone’s right to have a gun, just their right to have a weapon of war.

During the 10 years assault weapons were banned here in our country, gun violence was significantly reduced, saving hundreds of lives of men, women and children – and I emphasize children. We can only hope this 2020 election is successful for those candidates who want to ban these weapons. Otherwise, we will continue to live under the Trump/McConnell reign of hate and terror whose only solution is to send meaningless thoughts and prayers and encourage their followers to appear at public hearings carrying weapons.

Sadly, our elected officials no longer hear the citizens, but listen only to the sound of money.
