Go full steam ahead to the event that bills itself as the “best show north of the border” at Everett Arena this weekend.
The 34th annual Concord Model Railroad Show will return to the arena Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event regularly draws huge crowds of model railroad enthusiasts as well as curious folks who don’t know much about model railroads but want to check out the scene.
Sponsored by the Concord Model Railroad Club, the show will feature more than 50 dealers, door prizes, raffles, a “white elephant table” where attendees can buy or sell items on a small scale, and many operating railroad layouts in a variety of gauges.
This is the annual show for the Concord Model Railroad Club, which has been around since 1986. The club meets at the Washington Street School in Penacook, where they keep their gigantic model railroad layout – 71 feet by 36 feet. If you’ve never seen a layout that big before, the show at Everett Arena will be a perfect opportunity to check it out. You’ll also see other layouts created by various members of the club.
The show is the one and only fundraiser for the club, which is a nonprofit, and show chairman Rich Fifield said it’s all they need – the 2017 show saw close to 900 guests, and Fifield said the crowd seems to get bigger every year.
Tickets are $5 for adults, and children under 12 get in free with an adult. The maximum price for a family is $12.
