Bow’s Caitlyn Keenan had an early shot on goal as the University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team controlled the first half, but the University of Rhode Island weathered that storm and then scored in overtime to claim a 1-0 win at Wildcat Stadium in the season opener for both teams.
UNH held a 5-1 edge in shots in the first half, and keeper Cat Sheppard stopped all of URI’s five shots on goal in the second half, including a flying save on a high shot in the 80th minute that was going in just under the crossbar. But the Rams scored just 1:23 into overtime when a cross bounced past a knot of UNH defenders and fell to Natalia O’Leary, who buried the game-winner in the upper right-hand corner.
