A man from Chicago wearing dark clothes while walking in the travel lane on the bridge over Lake Winnisquam in Belmont was struck by a car and seriously injured Friday night, police said.

Teodoro Gonzalez III, 34, suffered serious head injuries and possible internal injuries and was transported to Concord Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to the intensive care unit at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Police said Gonzalezโ€™s family is with him and that he is in stable condition but has extensive serious injuries.

The car that struck Gonzalez was traveling west from Belmont to Tilton. The driver, Shawn Judd of Laconia had just gotten out of work and he is cooperating with police. Neither speed nor alcohol are considered factors in the crash, police said.

Just prior to the crash at 10 p.m., police were responding to the area for several 911 calls reporting a man walking dangerously close to the travel lane wearing dark clothing. Part of the crash was captured on a dash camera of a driver heading in the opposite direction.

โ€œItโ€™s not often we as investigators have access to see exactly how the crash occurred and we thank the driver for standing by at the scene and making the camera footage known,โ€ police said.
