I would like to thank the New Hampshire Supreme Court for upholding the state’s decision to not allow Northern Pass to be built. The state Supreme Court did the right thing and did not allow a large company to strong-arm them into acting as government servants for big business. However, we cannot use this as an excuse to take our eyes off of Eversource.
I am worried that this company will try to restart Northern Pass as a slightly different project under a completely different name. This would be a horrible thing for our state’s economy, environment and our tourism industry.
As citizens of New Hampshire, we cannot allow for Eversource to build any type of transmission line through our state. The Granite State is known for its untouched natural beauty, especially in the North Country. Building a massive infrastructure project through our gorgeous preserved landscapes would destroy our state’s charm, not to mention hurt our economy through loss of tourism. Our state should be focusing on developing our own new energy sources, such as through biomass energy. We can produce biomass energy from waste already in our state instead of importing power from Canada.
Defeating Northern Pass was a huge first victory. Now, the citizens of New Hampshire must keep our government officials accountable and make sure they do not allow any type of similar project to be built in our beautiful state.
