I agree with Bruce Currie that the Democrats lost the 2016 presidential election because they failed to represent ordinary working Americans and had become more representative of “hip” corporate and cultural elites (Monitor Forum, Aug. 22). I disagree, however, with the idea that there was nothing to Russiagate.
I do not use social media, yet I actually received an email with the headline “Pope changes mind, endorses Trump.” The fact that Robert Mueller, as well as every intelligence community leader, including those appointed by Trump and approved by the Republican Senate, testified that Russia interfered, and will probably do so again, simply can’t be ignored.
The bottom line is that, while the Democrats’ 2016 loss was their own fault, we do need to take prudent steps to protect our electoral processes from foreign interference.
